The Samajika Telangana Mahasabha and the district unit of Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (JAC) asserted here on Tuesday that only statehood for the region would benefit people belonging to weaker sections, enabling them to take advantage of the welfare schemes offered by the administration.

At a press conference here, Mahasabha president K. Mallanna and JAC convener G. Venkateshwarlu said that the framer of the constitution, B.R. Ambedkar, had favoured smaller States on the premise that they would lead to effective decentralisation of power.

Earlier, Mr. Venkateshwarlu and several BC Sangham leaders received the bus yatra taken out by the Mahasabha in support of the Telangana March on September 30. The yatra entered the town and went to Suryapet en route Khammam during the day.

It will travel to Porruru, Warangal, Karimnagar (on September 26), Kamaredduy, Sangareddy and Shadnagar (September 27).
