As a result of the weeklong incessant rain in most parts of the two Telugu States, the water level in the Godavari has been increasing steadily.
By Sunday evening, water level at the Dowleswaram Barrage was 8.7 feet and the discharge of water into the Bay of Bengal was 1.24 lakh cusecs.
Officials of the Irrigation Department also released 100 cusecs of water each into the eastern delta canal and the central delta canal during the day.
As the water level was increasing steadily at Bhadrachalam, officials of the Revenue and Irrigation departments were on the alert and the situation was being monitored on an hourly basis.
A flood alert is likely to be issued on Monday in case the water level continues to increase.
