Wakf Board bifurcation on the cards

February 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - Hyderabad:

The much awaited bifurcation of the A.P. State Wakf Board is finally on the cards. Three senior officials of the Government of India are arriving here on Tuesday evening to thrash out the issue. Arvind Mayaram, Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, Rakesh Mohan, Joint Secretary and P.K. Sharma, Under Secretary, will hold a discussion with the Minority Welfare secretaries of A.P and Telangana on Wednesday.

This follows the recent talks held by Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, with the Union Minority Affairs Minister, Najma Heptullah, at Delhi. A lot of exercise has already taken place for bifurcation of the Wakf Board and the Government of India officials are expected to take a final call.

Once they return to Delhi, a formal letter approving bifurcation of the Wakf Board would be sent and later, both the State governments will be issuing separate GOs in this regard.

“The whole process is expected to be over in the next ten to fifteen days,” an official said.
