Voters deal a severe blow to Anam family

Anam Ramanarayana Reddy loses deposit in Atmakur Assembly constituency

In the Assembly elections, voters dealt a severe blow to the four contestants belonging to the Anam family in Nellore.

Former Finance Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, who contested on a Congress ticket, lost deposit in the Atmakur Assembly constituency. He got 8,927 votes, which was far less than one-sixth of the total valid votes of 1.63 lakh.

Towards the last week of the election, Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy’s son Gautham Reddy had started to make rapid inroads into the support base of the Congress party here. The Congress supporters were stated to have supported the TDP nominee, Kanna Babu, to some extent but it was not enough to counter the Mekapati family support base.

In the Nellore Rural segment, Anam Vivekanananda Reddy’s brother, Vijayakumar Reddy, entered the fray. He also fared badly in this segment with YSRC nominee Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy winning the seat with a good majority. This segment was represented by Viveka in the past and the Anam family’s support base was eroded following the State’s bifurcation and the changed political equations.

Two Anam family members contested in Nellore City Assembly constituency, which was won by YSRC nominee P. Anil Kumar Yadav. TDP nominee Mungamuru Sridhar Krishna Reddy stood in second place in this segment.

Viveka’s son Anam Chinna Subba Reddy contested on the Congress ticket while his brother Anam Jayakumar Reddy entered the fray on the Jai Samaikyandhra Party ticket. Both the contestants met with defeat in the polls.
