VMS demands autonomy to AP

April 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Visalandhra Mahasabha has called for a united struggle to achieve autonomous status for Andhra Pradesh in view of the statements made by Union Minister for Planning Indrajit Singh in the Parliament refusing special category status to the State.

In a round table meeting on Saturday, president of the organisation Nalamotu Chakravarthy alleged that all the constitutional bodies, including the President, Central Cabinet, Parliament and even Supreme Court, contributed to the injustice done to Telugu people.

He demanded 58 years of autonomy in lieu of the “58 year of injustice”, during which central government establishments including UPSC, Governor, UGC and Income Tax department should be annulled. Central government should limit its role to Defence, currency and inter-state conflicts.

Ch. Narasimha Rao, political analyst, said the union government challenged the Telugu people by going back on its promise of 10-year special status. AP Journalists’ Forum President Ch.Krishnanjaneyulu reminded of Venkaiah Naidu’s demand of special status for 10 years in previous parliament, and called the volte-face a betrayal. BJP will face the same fate as Congress, he said.

Raviteja Padiri, Secretary of VMS, said all political parties including TDP, TRS and YSRCP are only interested in currying favours with the central government, keeping at stake the states’ interests.

“We have worked with parties such as Asom Gana Parishad and DMK. We will take this movement to Delhi,” Mr.Padiri said. The organisation will garner support by holding such meets in other districts too.

AP Journalists’ Forum and AP Gazetted Officers’ Association pledged their support for the cause. Those interested to take part may contact 8179886319 for more details.
