Vizianagaram Assembly segment sees fall in voters’ count

March 29, 2014 07:40 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 05:55 am IST - VIZIANAGARAM:

The number of registered voters in Vizianagaram Assembly constituency comprising Vizianagaram urban and Vizianagaram rural has come down by 7,765 from 2,13, 747 to 2, 05, 982 from March 30, 2009 till date, against the Election Commission’s anticipated increase of 2.6 per cent voters every year.

The reason is attributed to either deletions in the voters’ list due to migrations in search of employment to other districts, which is estimated to be about 2 per cent a year, or voters retained names in their native villages. Even the overall increase of voters till date when compared to that during 2009 polls in nine Assembly segments is 51,476. In the remaining eight constituencies, Kurupam (ST) tops the list with an increase of 11,186 voters followed by Srungavarapu Kota (10,295), Nellimarla (10,728), Parvathipuram (9,453), Cheepurupalli (8,420), Bobbili (5,992) and Gajapathinagaram (5,295). Salur (ST) Assembly segment figures at the bottom with an increase of 749 voters .
