The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Thursday approved the upgradation of existing facilities and creation of new infrastructure for handling of iron ore at the Visakhapatnam Port.

Stating that the decision was on expected lines, Visakhapatnam Port Chairman Ajeya Kallam told The Hindu on phone that the Rs.845.41-crore project would be completed on a fast-track mode as per schedule.

Scoffing at criticism by some unions over the proposal to hand over modernisation of iron ore handling to private parties, Mr. Ajeya Kallam said emphatically that employees’ interest would be protected completely.
