The pace at which formation of Telangana state is being carried forward seems to be of no point of concern for the Visalandhra Mahasabha as it has not given up hope that Andhra Pradesh will remain united.
It believes that President Pranab Mukherjee will oppose the idea of dividing A.P having witnessed the fallout of a similar uprising for Gorkhaland in his home State. While expecting good sense to prevail on those bent on dividing the State on partisan grounds, the Visalandhra Mahasabha has called upon supporters of unified State to participate in large numbers in the protest `Delhi muttadi’ being organised by it at Jantar Mantar on November 9 to mount pressure on the issue.
Releasing posters of the event at Press Club here on Monday, Visalandhra Mahasabha leaders V. Madhusudan Rao, P. Kutumba Rao, D. Rambabu and J. Venkateswara Rao said the Central Government was trying to divide the State through the backdoor in blatant disregard of the larger public opinion.
Instead of taking majority view of Parliament, the Government set formation of Telangana in motion through a Cabinet note and was not hesitant to take extra-constitutional measures to fulfil its single-point agenda, which was to divide the State for reaping electoral gains in 2014.
To form Telangana without securing the consent of State Assembly was unprecedented and against traditions, they said.
Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand were created with the nod given by respective States’ legislatures and Telangana should not be an exception, the Mahasabha leaders said and reiterated that they would continue to make a concerted effort to keep the State united.
