As many as 15 villages in Jainad and Bela mandals of Adilabad district in Andhra Pradesh remained marooned on Wednesday as the flood waters breached the banks of the Penganga.

The river which flows along the border with Maharashtra also caused flooding of the Tatichettu Orre stream in Sirpur (T) mandal cutting off road link to the interior Koutala and Bejjur mandals.

The level of flow at the inter State road bridge on the river at Dollara village remained constant at 14.5 metres until noon, inundating a couple of thousand acres of agriculture fields.

The district administration launched a survey of the effect of the flood but officials could not reach the habitations.

Meanwhile, Adilabad MLA Jogu Ramanna has urged the State Election Commission to postpone election in a dozen gram panchayats in the two mandals. Polling officials could not reach villages during the day, it being the last day for withdrawals.
