“I am not interested in talking about politics today. That we do all the time. My agenda during my meeting with the Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy today is development,” said Medak MP and Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader Vijayashanti here on Wednesday.
The MP, more known for her sporadic fiery outbursts against the Congress government and defiant postures during various agitations for the separate State and rare appearances in Parliament, surprised all by handing over a cheque for Rs.1 crore to the Chief Minister from MP’s development fund as her contribution to the Medak-Akkannapeta Railway line here on Wednesday.
The meeting, apparently held in a friendly atmosphere, even raised questions whether the MP has softened her stance towards the Congress or is it beginning of a new strategy at a time when three of Congress MPs are expected to cross over to the TRS in the next couple of days.
The film actor turned politician, Ms.Vijayashanti however gently declined to take political queries from the media. “While people movements are important, development is an equal priority, she said. Smilingly she let the mediapersons know the remark made by the Chief Minister in a lighten vein that “Vijaya Shanti is bringing pressure on the Government with her cheque”.
She hoped that her token contribution handed over in the presence of South Central Railway and Transport Department officials would speed up the pending 17 km Medak- Akkannapeta Railway line. The State Government would bear 50 per cent of the Rs.140 crore project and the rest by the Centre, she said. She also sought sanction of a medical college in the Medak Assembly constituency, developing Mallana Cheruvu in her constituency on the lines of a mini tank-bund for which she offered funds and also priority for MMTS project.
