The YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma on Sunday said that the process of bifurcation of the State would not have been initiated had Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy tendered resignation and a Congress leader from Telangana given the post of Chief Minister after the constitution of Telangana Development Board in 2011.
In her inaugural address at the second YSRC Praja Prasthanam, the party’s plenary at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district, Ms. Vijayamma, who is also Pulivendula MLA, said the Chief Minister’s strategy of rejecting the draft Bill in the State Legislative Assembly was aimed at sending it back to President Pranab Mukherjee within the stipulated deadline.
Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy termed the Bill as defective 43 days after discussing it in the Assembly and Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu did not demand its withdrawal.
She held Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy and Mr. Chandrababu Naidu responsible for the proposed bifurcation of the State. The YSRC had been opposing the bifurcation tooth and nail, she added. Ms. Vijayamma alleged a nexus between the Congress and the TDP to keep in check the popularity of YSRC president and her son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and in the process, the TDP came to the Congress Government’s rescue when a no-confidence was moved, she said.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said that he would lead a delegation of the party MLAs to the President to stall the bifurcation. If Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy was committed to a united State, why did he not resign when Congress President Sonia Gandhi announced her decision to bifurcate the State in July last year, he questioned. He accused the Chief Minister of acting as per Sonia Gandhi’s diktat.
Neither Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy nor Mr. Chandrababu Naidu undertook fasts and protests, sent affidavits to the President or mustered support of leaders of other political parties, as he did, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said. He charged Mr. Naidu with directing his partymen of Telangana region to raise separatist demands and those in Rayalaseema and Andhra to vouch for united State.
Jagan re-electedMr. Jaganmohan Reddy was declared elected unanimously as party president for a second term of three years.
YSRC Organisational Election Convenor Ummareddy Venkateswarlu declared him elected as his was the only nomination received through 16 sets. The first set of nomination papers was proposed by his sister Sharmila and second by his uncle Y.V. Subba Reddy.
Party leaders Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, Jupudi Prabhakar Rao, N. Suryaprakash, Abdul Rehman, Gattu Ramachandra Rao, S.P.Y. Reddy, Jyothula Nehru spoke and congratulated Jagan on his election and party cadre raised slogans in his support.
