Vijayamma non-committal on post-poll scenario

Predicts decisive victory for the YSRC in the 2014 elections

July 06, 2013 03:24 am | Updated November 16, 2021 11:02 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

YSR Congress honorary president Y.S.Vijayamma has ruled out the possibility of building bridges with the Congress in the near future but was significantly non-committal on the post-poll scenario.

Talking to a select group of journalists here on Friday, Ms. Vijayamma said there was no question of supporting the Congress. “Also, there is no need,” she added and accused the ruling dispensation of being vindictive against her son and YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy.

Where was the need to support the Congress, she asked. This was the 14 month since Mr. Jagan had been jailed.

Coal scam

The investigation was being delayed just to deny bail to him. “We have seen what the CBI did in the coal scam,” she alleged. “It is a vindictive gift for YSR after he had served the Congress for 35 years and brought it back to power,” she remarked.

She claimed that the YSR Congress would play a key role after the 2014 elections as it was expected to bag not less than 36 Lok Sabha seats and 225 Assembly seats.

Asked if the YSRC would support the Congress, the BJP or the Third Front at that time, she said: “Let us see how the situation will unfold after elections. There is no urgency now. We will decide depending upon people’s aspirations and the State’s interests.”

It would be good if the elections were advanced as people have already decided whom to support.

‘T’ issue

On bifurcation of the State, she said she did not believe it would happen. However, if it was done, it should be ensured that justice was done to all regions without affecting anybody’s sentiments. She said the talk of Rayala-Telangana was only to test the waters and to target Mr. Jagan. However, the YSRC would emerge victorious in both States post-bifurcation in the case of such an eventuality, she claimed.

She said there was good response during her recent tour of Telangana region because YSR had taken lot of interest in developing every remote and backward region in the State.

Ms. Vijayamma alleged that the case againt Mr. Jagan was “pre-planned.” Could they (CBI) prove that he had influenced even a single witness? Justice was not being done.

The CBI claimed that it did not have enough staff to probe allegations against TDP leader N. Chandrababu Naidu. Different laws were being adopted for different people. One for Mopidevi Venkatarama, another for Sabitha Reddy and Dharmana Prasada Rao, she said.

To a question about the remarks of AICC leader Digvijay Singh on his party’s links with the YSR Congress, she emphatically said, “No, we do not share the same DNA with the Congress.”
