In a late night development on Sunday, the BJP announced that former party president M. Venkaiah Naidu would be addressing a demonstration by members of the Andhra Pradesh BJP unit against “unjust bifurcation bill” on Monday at Jantar Mantar.

The announcement came a little over 24 hours after party president Rajnath Singh asserted that the BJP would create a separate state of Telangana after forming the government in the Centre as the UPA had failed to act despite support from parties like the BJP. Addressing the BJP National Council meeting here, Mr. Singh said that his party would create Telangana with a simultaneous ‘action plan’ to find proper solution to the problems of the other areas of Andhra Pradesh. “The UPA which had promised to create Telangana as soon as it came in power, has not been able to achieve it even after five years. Due to Congress party’s hypocrisy, the dissatisfaction and outrage in both Telangana and Seemandhra regions has increased,” he told the delegates.

His remarks assume importance as the winter session of Parliament is scheduled to resume on February 5 in which the government hopes to push through the Bill.

Special Correspondent from Hyderabad adds: Meanwhile, when contacted, senior party leader from Seemandhra K. Haribabu said the dharna was meant to highlight the need for amend the AP Reorganisation Bill to address the concerns of Seemandhra region. He said the BJP wants amendments on 10 issues in the Bill, including Polavaram project. He said Polavaram has been changed from multi-purpose project to an irrigation scheme in the Bill. Besides, lands would get submerged in Telangana region.
