Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu has described the third alternative as a ‘non-starter’ and ridiculed the political parties, including the TRS, for raking it up.
The talk about a third alternative and the charges levelled against the BJP by the TRS has only exposed its apprehensions on its prospects in the elections. Experiments in the past to stitch up a third alternative had failed as the governments headed by Deve Gowda, I.K. Gujral and Chandrasekhar could not sustain their full-term.
He dismissed the TRS charge that the Telugu Desam and the BJP entered into an “unholy alliance.” “We have come together to ensure the victory of our alliance in the three-cornered contests in Telangana region,” he said.
He made light of the charge that the BJP tried to stall the Telangana Bill in the Rajya Sabha. He recalled how he had spoken at length in the Upper House about the imminent need to carve out separate Telangana with Hyderabad as its capital as also the steps needed to ensure accelerated development of north Telangana region.

Survey reports/opinion polls had shown that the TDP-BJP alliance was forging ahead in Telangana as well as Seemandhra. “The latest opinion poll has projected the TDP-BJP combine in the forefront even before the commencement of the campaign. The prospects are set to improve drastically once both the parties take to joint campaign,” he said.
A stable government at the Centre would help in fulfilling the requirements for building up a new capital in Andhra Pradesh, he said and added it would also help Telangana in overcoming power and other problems.
