Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader M. Venkaiah Naidu said categorically that the people of the nation wanted Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister keeping in view the excellent track record of the development during his reign in Gujarat.
Speaking to the press during ‘Praja Chaitanya Sadassu’ organised in Anantapur district on Wednesday, he said the nation was looking upto Modi to deliver them into the next wave of development which stopped right when the UPA came to power.
“The development that Narendra Modi has ensured in Gujarat in his three terms as Chief Minister is very conspicuous,” he said adding that a serious debate ensued in the recent national executive meeting of the BJP regarding the issue of Modi’s candidature as the party’s prime ministerial candidate.
On the other hand, he accused the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of making the nation crippled without development where as his Cabinet colleagues indulged in corruption.
Touching upon the power situation in the State, he said the seeds for the current crisis were sown during Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s regime through his announcement of free power. He added that he had warned against the idea of free power then itself to the late YSR only for the advice to fall on deaf ears.
He argued that power generation was more important for the State than free power as efficient power supply would any day be far better than no power supply at all.
