The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education’s (APSCHE) recent guideline has revived hopes of professors in the Krishna University (KRU) to apply for the post of the Vice-Chancellor of the KRU. Speaking to The Hindu over phone, APSCHE Vice-Chairman P. Vijaya Prakash clarified that a person holding a position of professor was eligible to apply for the post.
In a detailed notification to fill up the V-C posts in the five State universities issued by the State Higher Education Department on June 24, there was no mention of the 10-years of academic experience. The notification reads as: “Persons with distinguished academics, with vast experience as a professor in a university system or in an equivalent position in a reputed research and/or academic administrative organisation, may apply.”
KRU in-charge Vice-Chancellor D. Suryachandra Rao and its Nuzvid Campus Special Officer M.V. Basaveswara Rao are reportedly local aspirants of the KRU VC post. “The fresh guideline of the APSCHE has paved the way for us to try our luck,” one of the KRU V-C aspirants said.
Sources said a few senior TDP Ministers from the Krishna district were backing local professors for the top post hoping that they would push for early completion of the pending projects at the university. The last date to apply for the posts in the five State universities is July 14.
