The three-day annual Vasanthotsavam took off to a colourful start on Tuesday at the ancient hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara. As part of the spring festival, the processional deities of Lord Malayappa swamy along with His two divine consorts were taken out in a grand procession to the venue–Vasanthotsava mandapam situated on the south-west corner of the temple. After the mandatory rituals, the priests ceremoniously performed ‘Snapana Thirumanjanam’ to the deities amidst the rhythmic chanting of hymns from the sacred texts.

As never before the mandapam was aesthetically decorated reminding one of a forest panorama with a picturesque landscape, artificial springs, water falls and the images of wild animals. Eminent designers and florists from Bengaluru and Chennai were specially commissioned for the embellishment works of the mandapam.

Immense significance is attached to the festival which is performed for three days from Trayodasi to Pournami in the month of Chaitra every year.
