Y. Sridhar Reddy, an aspiring politician from Uppal area on the city outskirts who was allegedly involved in criminal cases leading to his arrest, committed suicide in the early hours of Saturday, police said.
Sridhar Reddy, who went by the name of Uppal YSR was a resident of Laxma Reddy colony in Uppal. His family members found him in an unconscious state after he consumed poison and rushed him to the nearby Matrix hospital. He died within a few minutes of reaching the hospital.
“We searched his house but no suicide note has been found so far. The reason for his suicide is not yet known,” Uppal Inspector Laxmikanth Reddy told The Hindu over phone.
Uppal YSR was the prime accused in the murder of M. Jagadishwar Reddy, with whom he had political rivalry in the area, seven years ago. Even as he tried to become a strong leader in the locality following the murder, the victim’s younger brother Parameshwar Reddy eventually got elected as Corporator of Ramanthapur.
The fight for supremacy in the area continued with Uppal YSR intervening in local land disputes. Two weeks ago, he was arrested along with six of his associates on the charge of conspiring to kill Parameshwar Reddy. A Tata Safari and three swords were recovered from them.
