Unruly scenes marred the general body of the East Godavari Zilla Parishad that met here on Thursday with the Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Reddy Subrahmanyam and YSR Congress Party MLA from Kothapeta Chirla Jaggi Reddy hurling offensives and smashing the nameplates and water bottles. The pandemonium continued for about an hour with none of the two leaders was ready to give up the argument, forcing chairman Jyothula Naveen Kumar to adjourn the meeting.

The wordy duel began when Mr. Jaggi Reddy raised the issue of non-availability of sand even for the construction of government buildings and alleging that illegal transportation of sand was taking place rampantly from the Gopalapuram sand ramp. Though he didn’t mention any names, the very reference of Gopalapuram irked Mr. Subrahmanyam prompting him to retort quickly that it was Mr. Jaggi Reddy, who was behind the sand mafia at Gopalapuram. Expressing his resentment over the allegation, Mr. Jaggi Reddy thrown the papers on to the floor and accused all the members of the TDP of involving in sand mafia.

Reacting swiftly, Mr. Subrahmanyam thrown the nameplate in front of him and the water bottle arranged for him in the direction of Mr. Jaggi Reddy and used unparliamentary language. With Mr. Jaggi Reddy along with the members of the YSRCP started reciprocating, members of the TDP lost their cool and resorted to personal attacks. Chaos prevailed in the entire meeting hall and the members of both the parties used unparliamentary language . Mr. Naveen Kumar adjourned the meeting for 10 minutes.
