Senior citizens and people’s representatives came under the single banner of United Simhapuri and organised the pre-Christmas Mahotsav in the sprawling, brightly decorated venue at the VR College Grounds on the Trunk Road here on Tuesday.
An awe-inspiring 50-ft Christmas tree was erected at the utsav premises, which drew large crowds of devotees cutting across religious faiths to see the festivities being conducted on a large scale in the city.
The organisers made arrangements for a two-minute laser show and also enthralling electronic fireworks for the entertainment of the devotees who gathered at the venue.
“This is for the first that such an elaborate celebration at a single place is being organised. The response from the members of the public is extraordinary and we will do this every year from now on,” said Mayor Sk. Abdul Aziz, who is instrumental in bringing together the United Simhapuri Christmas Mahotsav celebrations.
Mr. Aziz also thanked the staff of all the departments in the Nellore Municipal Corporation for taking an active part in the conduct of the utsav celebrations on a grand scale.
The special features of the Christmas celebrations are the carols and devotional songs rendered by over 200 singers who were drawn from different parts of the State. The chief guest of the occasion was Rev. Moses Prakasam. The organisers made sure that the pastors, fathers and reverends from different places in the region congregate for the unique event, which marked a decorated stage with the pictorial, biblical representations that drew wide attention from the public. “I have not seen such spirit of unity before. The manner in which the whole event is being conducted is laudable,” said Christopher, a resident of Podalakur road locality, who arrived at the venue with his family members.
