Uma lashes out at Vundavalli, Daggubati

Will prove the critics wrong on Polavaram project, says Minister

Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao took exception to the remarks of former MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar and former Minister Daggubati Venkateswara Rao on the Polvaram project during their separate visits.

Addressing media here on Thursday, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said that the two leaders were more interested in addressing the media at the Polavaram helipad than seeing for themselves the wonderful work that was under progress.

The diaphragm wall that was going to a depth of 300 feet below the riverbed and the large-scale excavation of rock were engineering marvels and must be seen by all people, especially those holding responsible positions, he said.

It was unfortunate that Dr. Venkateswara Rao did not visit the Pattiseema scheme because the water pumped up had already reached fields in Karamchedu, his village in Prakasam district.

‘Credit goes to Naidu’

The Minister wanted to know which party Mr. Arun Kumar and Dr. Venkateswara Rao represented when they visited Polavaram.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu succeeded in getting seven mandals in the Polavaram dam site vacated, a task which three of his predecessors could not accomplish, he pointed out.

Mr Arun Kumar told the media that it would not be possible to complete the project in three years, but the State government was leaving no stone unturned to finish it in two years, the Minister said.
