The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), U.K., has sanctioned a project to support a partnership study between the University of Bristol Veterinary School and the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU).
The study would be on the consequences of improper adaptation of high-producing cross-bred dairy cattle to environmental stress in India. The BBSRC would provide around Rs.30 lakh for the collaborative study including an exchange of staff between the two institutions. International workshops would be organised at both the institutions, T.P. Sethumadhavan Director of Entrepreneurship, KVASU, and the project’s coordinator, told The Hindu . The major objective of this partnership was skill and knowledge exchange through reciprocal training visits of early career researchers.
Academic workshops would cement collaboration between the varsities to provide additional international platform for the work carried out in Bristol. As part of this, KVASU would become a centre of excellence in the cattle health, Dr. Sethumadhavan said.
The activity would be over a period of two years. Obviously, this was a great opportunity for both the institutions, particularly in developing an extremely fruitful and, hopefully, a long-term partnership in global food security and sustainable livestock management in India, B. Ashok, Vice Chancellor, KVASU, said.
This collaboration would pave way for developing sustainable measures to ensure the health and welfare of high-producing, cross-bred dairy cattle, Dr. Ashok said.
