Ugadi, Sri Rama Navami festivities to begin tomorrow

District Cultural Affairs Council will conduct Ugadi and Sri Rama Navami festivities from March 31 to April 8.

District Collector K. Sasidhar will inaugurate the Ugadi celebrations at Shilaparamam on March 31. Vidwan Sottu Sambamurthy will recite Sri Jayanama Samvatsara panchagam and Ugadi patchadi will be distributed, district in-charge tourism officer G. Gopal said on Saturday. Sri Harini will give a dance performance and cultural programmes will be performed in the evening.

Sports competitions will be conducted for youth in shot put, discuss throw and tennikoit for girls from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on April 1, he said. As part of the festivities, a fancy dress competition will be conducted for children aged between six and 13 years from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 2. Boys and girls will perform cultural programmes on April 3.

An essay-writing competition on “role of youth in elections” will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on April 4, yoga, skipping and song competitions for children from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on April 5, classical and folk dance competitions on April 6 and musical chairs for women on April 7.

On April 8, panakam and prasadam will be distributed at 10.30 a.m. and N. Abdulla of Rajampet will perform a comedy entertainment programme on April 8. The nine-day-long festivities will end on April 8, Mr. Gopal said. Endowments superintendent B. Sudhakar Reddy and Shilparamam administrative officer Muniraju participated.

District Collector K. Ramgopal will inaugurate the Sri Jayanama Ugadi (Telugu New Year Day) celebrations at ZP meeting hall here on March 31. The celebrations included panchanga sravanam, kavi sammelan and writers’ felicitation. Apart from the staff of the district administration, the public is also invited to attend the event, said a press release.
