Tyagaraja’s birth anniversary celebrated

Marking the birth anniversary of the saint composer Tyagaraja Swamy, city-based Saraswathi Gana Sabha and Tyagaraja Seva Samithi conducted a day-long recital of Tyagaraja keertans at Suryakala Mandiram on Cinema Road here on Tuesday.

The programme began with clarinet recital by Kakaraparthi Veerabhadra Rao, Pasupuleti Venkata Ramana, Sheik Subhan, Sheik Vajeer Saheb troupes and Rayudu brothers, which was followed by the rendition of Keertanas by noted classical singer Peddada Surya Kumari and her disciples. A good number of singers participated in the ‘Pancha Ratna Seva’ and recital of Utsava Sampradaya Keertanas.

Students of classical music from Bala Bhavan, Swaranartana School of classical music and dance, Srirama Samajam, Manjari Music College and Sadguru Music College in the city participated. Kommireddi Narasimha Rao of Sri Saraswathi Gana Sabha was the chief guest at the inaugural session. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the 110-year-old Sabha was conducting several annual events pertaining to classical music and dance and the celebration of the birth anniversary of Sadguru Tyagaraja was one among them.
