Two daily wagers were killed on the spot when a huge stretch of earth from a tank bund caved in when they were trying to lift sand at Pedda Cheruvu tank of Baireddipalle mandal in the district on Wednesday evening.
According to the Baireddipalle police, Lakshmappa (24) and Muniratnam (32) were digging sand at a corner of the riverbed close to the bund. All of a sudden, huge mounds of earth fell on them. The duo died before any effort was carried out to pull them out of earthen mound. The bodies were shifted to area hospital for autopsy.
