In two separate railway mishaps in Kadapa district on Saturday night, a goods train engine on a trial run on the recently electrified Kadapa-Nandalur railway line went up in flames due to a technical snag on the outskirts of Kadapa while a railway engine rammed into a stationary track packing engine near Nandalur, causing injuries to a railway engineer and two others.

As the goods train going from Kadapa to Nandalur awaited the signal near Shilaparamam between Kadapa and Kanumulopalle railway stations, flames erupted in the engine due to a technical snag.

The driver and his assistant scurred for safety from the burning engine. A fire tender later put off the fire. Railway Protection Force Circle Inspector Srinivasa Rao inspected the burnt engine and attributed the mishap to a technical snag.

Meanwhile, a goods train engine rammed into a stationary engine which was engaged in track-packing work on a new line leading to the Nandalur railway yard. A railway engineer of Guntakal Section Ravi Kumar, Grade III fitter Hanumanthu and another employee Ranganatham, working on the track sustained injuries and were rushed by ambulance to RIMS hospital. Railway officials are examining the cause of the accidents.
