Two Maoists arrested in East Godavari

The Yetapaka police arrested two CPI (Maoist) leaders in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Presenting them before the media here, S. Raviprakash, SP, said that Kaluma Lakuma (26) alias Ravi of Guthikoya community and a native of Vissapuram village and Kaluma Raja (30), also from the same village, were arrested in the Jaggaram forest area while moving under suspicious circumstances.

The SP said that Lakuma joined Sabari dalam under the leadership of Moppu Mogili alias Naresh in 2009. He worked as dalam member for about two-and-half years and was involved in several offences.

The charges against the Maoist included murder of sarpanch Raju of Komanapalli village in 2009, involvement in cutting of trees and blocking of road at Dugutta svillage in the same year and distribution of pamphlets containing extremist literature.

The Maoist also took part in the exchange of fire in April, 2010, at Durma village of Chhattisgarh.

He and his wife surrendered before the Bhadrachalam police in 2011. However, he joined the Sabari Area Committee again in 2015. Raja, the other arrested Moist, joined the Sabari dalam in 2009.

He worked as dalam member for about one-and-half year and was involved in several offences.

The charges against him included involvement in exchange of fire at Durma village of Chhattisgarh, attack on Edugurallapalli armed outpost and firing at the police personnel.

Both the Maoists are involved in several offences
