Two killed as boats collide in River Krishna in Amaravati

A woman and her daughter drowned in river Krishna after their boat collided with another boat near Borupalem village in the capital Amaravati region.

The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday.

According to the police, Nadakuduru Saida Raju, his wife Madhavi and their three-year-old daughter Kavya, all from Ibrahimpatnam in Krishna district, ventured into the river for fishing in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. They anchored the net in the river and fell asleep.

A boat carrying sand, steered by M. Naga Mallaeswara Rao, knocked the boat belonging to Mr. Raju. Due to the collision Madhavi and her daughter drowned in the river, while Mr. Raju managed to swim to safety.

Thullur police are investigating the case.
