Two killed, 24 injured as bus falls into valley

Two persons were killed and 24 injured when an APSRTC bus from Bengaluru to Kadapa overturned on Guvvalacheruvu ghat road in Chintakommadinne mandal in Kadapa district and fell into a 200-foot valley on Tuesday morning.

The bus conductor of Kadapa depot B.S. Ratnam, 45, and an unidentified passenger were killed.

Soon after the accident, Kadapa OSD (Operations) B. Satya Yesubabu, Kadapa DSP E.G. Ashok Kumar, Kadapa Rural Circle Inspector B.V. Siva Reddy, Chintakommadinne Sub-Inspector Kullayappa and special party police personnel rushed to the site and rescued the passengers. Fire service personnel placed jockeys and lifted the overturned bus and rescued a severely wounded passenger who was trapped under it. They brought out the bus by deploying a crane. The injured passengers were rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Kadapa.
