Deputy Superintendent of Police (Palamaner) K. Shankar on Wednesday led a raid party and nabbed two red sanders smugglers from Tamil Nadu, at Matsyam village on the Bangarupalle-Aragonda road, 28 km from here.

Acting on a tip-off, the DSP along with sub-inspectors Umamaheswar (Bangarupalem) and Dilip Kumar (Gangavaram) waylaid an SUV, which was on its way to Bengaluru from Seshachalam hills, and nabbed two smugglers -- Shanmugam (27) and Govindarajulu (30) -- and seized red sanders logs worth over Rs. 10 lakh.

They were remanded to judicial custody at Chittoor jail and the logs were shifted to area godown. A case was registered. The duo had criminal cases against them in Chittoor district, the police said.
