Two child marriages averted in Prakasam

July 03, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - ONGOLE:

Childline India Foundation NGO partner HELP thwarted two child marriages in Martur and Addanki mandals in Prakasam district on Saturday.

Keen to continue her studies, a 16-year-old girl, who had passed Class X recently, called child helpline 1098 and sought help to end the marriage proposed by her parents with a 25-year-old man at Govada, near Addanki. She also informed the helpline about the marriage fixed for her friend, studying first Intermediate in Martur, against her wish, with a man at Konanki village. HELP social activists rushed to both the villages and stopped the marriages by taking undertakings from their parents.
