Two boys drown in Hussainsagar

March 17, 2015 10:23 am | Updated 10:23 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Two siblings who went for a swim drowned in the backwaters of Hussainsagar Lake on Monday afternoon, the police said.

Mohd Kaleem (11) and Mohd Khaja (8) stayed at Punjagutta with their parents, who are daily wagers. On Monday afternoon, Kaleem and Khaja, along with two other children, got into the deep water near the Necklace Road railway station side. “As both of them did not know swimming, they drowned while their friends managed to come out safely,” sub inspector Ramgopalpet M. Raghuvendra Swamy said.

On being alerted by locals, the police rushed to the spot and launched a rescue mission. Expert swimmers were called in to trace the children. However, in the evening, the swimmers could only bring out their bodies. Later, the bodies were shifted to Gandhi Hospital mortuary. A post-mortem examination will be conducted on the bodies on Tuesday. The police registered a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of CrPC.
