Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the first two blocks of the Andhra Pradesh campus of the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) at Inavolu, the core capital region of Amaravati, on November 28.
The inaugural will take place at 10.30 a.m., about 2 km from the State Secretariat in Velagapudi. VIT is the first private university to start classes from July 26 this year from the State. A total of 630 students have enrolled from across the country.
Addressing a press conference, the varsity vice-president Sekar Viswanathan said in record time of 11 months 3,21,000 sq ft had been constructed after laying piles to the depth of about 100 ft. The construction began in January this year. The campus now had two blocks ready — an academic block named after former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishna and a hostel block named after Sarojini Naidu.
To begin with, the university is offering B.Tech in CSE, besides Data Analytics and Networking and Security also in CSE, ECE, ECE (Embedded Systems), ECE (VLSI) and Mechanical Engineering; M.Tech in Software Engineering (5-year integrated. Admission after 12th class with no entrance exam) and Ph.D in Engineering, Science, Management and Humanities.
Vice-Chancellor D. Subhakar said admissions to B.Tech degree programmes were through VIT Engineering Entrance Examinations-VITEEE, common for all the four VIT campuses (Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal and Amaravati). VITEEE-2018 will be held as computer-basted test (CBT) between April 4 and 15 at 124 locations in all important towns and cities in the country (including the four campuses) and also in Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar and Muscat, he said.
Future plans
Mr. Subhakar said the State government wanted the university to provide education to 50,000 students and the target was to enrol at least 18,000 students in the first five years. Going forward, the university plans to offer courses in medicine, law, management, architecture, agriculture and other allied departments.
