They will operate at different timings at different locations

The TTD has identified 90 prime locations for the Slotted Sarva Darshanam (SSD) counters at Tirumala and Tirupati.

TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal on Friday hoped the “time slot” system, aimed at bringing relief to pilgrims from spending long hours in darshan lines, will become functional by March-end. As the time slot tokens will be available through the SSD counters on an hourly basis, enough care has been taken in identifying their locations.

Majority of the pilgrims reach the town either by train or bus. Hence a scientific approach has been adopted in calculating the crowd, particularly during peak hours at the railway and bus stations. The location of the counters has been done in such a way that pilgrims do not spend more than five minutes in securing the tokens even during peak hours.

As the counters are bound to operate at different intervals at different locations, the management is focussing on the issues relating to the modus of deployment of man power vis-a-vis data entry operators, supervisors and other affiliated staff.

The management is focussing on developing a fool-proof application for the purpose. The CEO of the Aadhaar project, during a recent meeting in Delhi, has given some tips with regard to the development of the software, he said. In-built provisions are being thought of to check misuse of tokens or impersonation.

During the trial-run of the system in December, the management stumbled upon certain deficiencies such as difficulty in the registration process, and has subsequently succeeded in developing a model counter that shall meet all the required parameters. However, a final decision with regard to the shape and design of the counters will be taken in a week's time, he added.
