August 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 04:21 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) on Wednesday released the much-awaited maiden notification to fill 770 civil engineering posts in five departments of the government through an online examination to be conducted on September 3. These posts of the rank of assistant executive engineer are part of 3,783 posts for which the State government issued an order on July 27 for filling by the commission. This is probably for the first time in the country that a public service commission is conducting an examination online.

Its chairman Ghanta Chakrapani and members C. Vittal and B. Chandravati told a media conference that 418 vacancies would be filled in Rural Water Supply and Sanitation department, 126 in Public Health and Municipal Engineering, 83 in Roads and Buildings and 143 in Irrigation and Command Area Development. The 126 vacancies in Public Health and Municipal Engineering would include five posts of Municipal AEEs. The commission would go for offline examination if the number of applicants exceeded 30,000. So far, about 10,000 civil engineering and 10,000 mechanical engineering candidates have availed themselves of the one-time registration facility on the commission’s website

The minimum age to apply is 18 and maximum 44 as on July 1, 2015. The scale of pay is Rs 37,100 – Rs 91,450. The last date for online applications is September 3. Mr. Chakrapani said the commission would issue another notification within a week to fill AEE posts in mechanical engineering and those of assistant engineers. The notification for posts in Group II services will be issued by October end and the examination would take place in November – December. The syllabus for these services would be released by the month-end. It would have four papers, including general studies, and a total of 600 marks, of which 75 marks would be allotted for personal interview. The TSPSC has already prepared the syllabus for all examinations from Groups I to IV, gazetted, non-gazetted and other miscellaneous posts. It would be put on the commission’s website shortly. Plans were made to fill 80 per cent of the jobs by December. There were, however, certain problems in conduct of Group I examinations which the commission was trying to sort out. More jobs were likely to be notified after the Kamalanathan Committee which is dividing the State-level jobs between Telangana and AP submitted its report.

Mr. Chakrapani said examinations for posts in agriculture, excise, automobile engineering and some other departments would be tentatively held in October.
