TRS wins 6 MPTC posts unoppposed

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi tasted its first victory in the Zilla Parishad elections, with its candidates being elected unopposed from six Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) after the completion of the period for withdrawals ended on Monday.

Of elections to the 13 MPTCs, the TRS snatched six posts, the Congress three and independents four seats, following the withdrawal of other contestants from the fray.

In Karimnagar mandal, TRS candidates won unanimously from Asifnagar-1 and Gopalpur villages. Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar of the TRS played a crucial role in the withdrawal of nominations by other contestants and in ensuring the victory of his party candidates. He exuded confidence the party would gain the post of Mandal Parishad president by winning the remaining MPTC seats in the mandal.

Similarly, TRS candidates won from Thungur village of Sarangapur mandal, Pathagudur of Velgatoor mandal, Tekurthi in Jammikunta mandal and Pothugal-1 of Mustabad mandal. On the other hand, Congress nominees were elected unopposed from Bommakal-3 in Karimnagar manal, Mallaram in Vemulawada and Uppara Malyala in Gangadhara mandal.

Independents won four MPTC posts in the district – Venkatraopeta of Medipalli mandal, Anthargaon and Morapalli in Jagtial mandal and Ekinapur in Korutla mandal.
