TRS influence limited to Karimnagar: Ponnala

May 12, 2014 10:17 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 07:10 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah has said that influence of TRS was limited to Karimnagar district alone.

“TRS has fallen behind the TDP-BJP combine by winning merely nine municipalities. Its performance did not go beyond Karimnagar,” Mr. Lakshmaiah said here on Monday after the announcement of municipal election results.

He said reports from the districts suggested that Congress fared well in eight districts except Karimnagar. “We have so far won 23 municipalities and are confident of wresting others with the support of other friendly parties. The verdict was hung in eight other civic bodies,” he pointed out.

The TPCC chief said that even parties such as MIM and BSP wrested one municipality each. He thanked the urban voters for backing the Congress and hoped that the rural electorate would continue to do the same. He said in the last 10 years, Congress Government had done a lot for the rural areas by implementing free power, loan waiver scheme, MGNREGS, health schemes and fee reimbursement. He exuded confidence that Congress would form the first Government in Telangana.
