Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has told a delegation of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) led by its president K. Chandrasekhar Rao to not let the people of Seemandhra living in Hyderabad and elsewhere in Telangana feel insecure.
The TRS delegation met the Prime Minister in Delhi on Tuesday to thank him for ensuring the passage of the A.P. Reorganisation Bill in Parliament. The Prime Minister was also learnt to have told the TRS leaders not to indulge in anything that would dent the image of Hyderabad as a progressive metropolitan city.
Mr. Rao submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister, seeking the Centre’s help in the reconstruction of Telangana in tune with the people’s aspirations.
He was learnt to have requested the Prime Minister to accord national project status to the Pranahitha-Chevella Project, special category status to Telangana and allocation of 500 MW of power from the Central pool for three years as irrigation in the region is predominantly dependent on pumping groundwater. The region has about 85 per cent of State's agriculture pump sets getting free power supply.
Further, the Prime Minister was requested to allocate gas to power projects at Shankarpalli and Nedunur, sanction of an IIM, a health institution on the lines of AIIMS, allowing deputation of non-AP cadre IAS, IPS and IFS officers of Telangana origin to work in the new State for five years and sanction of a special package to improve employment opportunities so that Hyderabad could maintain and improve upon its brand image.
Mr. Rao also met BJP president Rajnath Singh and thanked the party on behalf of the Telangana people for supporting the bifurcation Bill in Parliament.
