TRS on Tuesday asked the Election Commission to conduct bypolls in two Assembly seats along with 10 other constituencies in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh.

“The EC’s decision not to hold the bypolls in Sircilla and Vemulawada along with 10 other seats is unconstitutional.

We urged the Election Commission to reconsider its decision,” B. Vinod Kumar, former TRS MP, told reporters after submitting a petition to Chief Electoral Officer I. V. Subba Rao here.

He said the TRS sent a fax to the Election Commission in New Delhi putting forward its demand.

The EC has on Monday announced the schedule for the by-elections to 10 Assembly seats, according to which polling will be held on July 27.

Terming the EC’s decision not to hold bypoll in the two seats as “unconstitutional”, TRS has yesterday said it will move court against the poll panel’s decision.

Mr. Subba Rao said he will wait for the directive from the Election Commission over the TRS petition.

The EC has decided not to hold the bypoll in Vemulawada and Sircilla as election petitions are pending in courts with regard to the two Assembly seats.

Meanwhile, the CEO has given the go ahead to the State government for filling up vacancies of teacher posts under District Selection Committee-2008.

“We have examined whether the State government’s decision to fill the teacher posts amounts to violation of model code or not. Since the procedure began in 2008, we decided that the announcement is not a violation of poll code,” Mr. Subba Rao said.
