A pleasure trip to the NTR Beach turned tragic as two women members of a family drowned and another is battling for life in a private hospital, here on Monday.

According to Timmapuram police, eight members of a family including four women from Medapadu village of Samalkot mandal went to the NTR beach in the evening and the women ventured into the sea to take a bath.

With a series of currents hitting the shore, Medisetti Krishnaveni, 26, Jampa Sangeetha, 23, and Medisetti Durga, 23, were swept away. After the family members on the shore raised an alarm, the local fishermen swung into action to rescue the women.

Battling for life

They, however, were able to bring back Ms. Durga to the shore and she was rushed to a private hospital in Sarpavaram. Her condition was stated to be critical.

After searching for a while, the swimmers were able to fish out the Krishnaveni and Sangeetha but they were dead by then. The bodies were sent for post-mortem. A case has been registered and investigation is on.
