Tributes paid to Telugu poet Kalekuri

May 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:59 am IST - ONGOLE:

Glowing tributes were paid to noted Telugu poet, writer and literary critic Kalekuri Prasad on his second death anniversary here on Sunday.

Admirers of Prasad gathered at the Ambedkar Bhavan here where he breathed his last this day in 2013. They vowed to fight against continuing caste oppression and human rights' violations, taking inspiration from the thought-provoking literary works of Prasad at a condolence meeting convened by the Dalit Hakula Parirakshana Samiti. He had won acclaim for translating 70 books from English into Telugu, including Arundhati Roy’s Booker Prize winning fiction ‘The God of Small Things,’ pointed out DHPS Prakasam district President Neelam Nagendra Rao. Prasad’s songs gave a push to the Jana Natya Mandali, the cultural wing of the People’s War Group, which later merged into the CPI (Maoist) party and also united Dalits in the wake of the massacre in Karamchedu and Tsunduru.
