The expertise of tribal women, who carved a niche for themselves in stitching school uniforms for inmates of tribal welfare educational institutions, came in for praise at a meeting held in connection with the World Tailors’ Day, in Bhadrachalam on Friday.
The meeting was organised by the Tribal Women Tailoring Training Society and the Bhadradri Girijana Mahila Society at the old market complex in the temple town.
According to sources, the speakers commended the efforts of the tailoring training society in imparting skills to tribal women of the Bhadrachalam Agency and helping them to tread the path of financial self-reliance.
They made specific reference to the tireless efforts put in by trained tribal women in stitching the school uniforms for inmates of the tribal welfare ashram schools and KGBVs in the Agency areas. Addressing the gathering, Project Director of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency, Bhadrachalam, D. Divya, appreciated the tribal women for their spirited efforts to become economically self-reliant. Envisioning tremendous self-employment potential in tailoring, she assured them that expert trainers would be roped in to enrich their tailoring skills and explore new marketing avenues. Society president Komaram Rama and secretary Pandalamma spoke.
The tribal women of the tailoring training society served traditional snacks and staged impressive cultural programmes highlighting the glorious Adivasi culture and traditions.
