The inhabitants of Rachakonda Tribal thanda staged a protest at Narayanapur mandal headquarters with the support of political parties here on Monday, demanding that the government withdraw the proposed Rachakonda Field Firing Range (RFFR) from the hills.
The TDP, TRS and BJP had supported the tribal people’s protest.
Speaking on the occasion, TRS Polit Bureau member, Karne Prabhakar, accused the government and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) of concealing facts about the ill-effects of the RFFR. Extending support to the agitating tribal people, the TRS leader said that the government and BDL must bring all facts to the fore, if they were really committed to the welfare of tribal people.
They had submitted a representation at the Tahsildar’s office asking the Tahsildar to recommend to the government the withdrawal of the proposal to set up RFFR in Rachakonda area. TRS leader Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy, BJP leader G. Manhoar Reddy, TDP leader Karnati Venkatesham and hundreds of tribal people took part.
Meanwhile, a team of senior citizens under the banner of Rachakonda Parirakshana Samithi under the leadership of veteran journalist Pothuri Venkateshwara Rao and M. Veda Kumar visited tribal thandas and interacted with the people to know their objections over setting up of RFFR in their area.
The tribal people explained that they did not want any such Firing Ranges as it disturbs their living.
