The Transport Department has launched a special drive in the district to ensure linkage of Aadhaar number to transactions with the department.

The department is also holding awareness camps for commercial vehicle drivers in Srikakulam, Rajam, Palasa and Tekkali. It has directed car and bike dealers to collect the Aadhaar numbers of customers for sale of vehicles to ensure hassle-free registration of vehicles.

Last month, the department had issued orders making Aadhaar number mandatory for issue of new licenses and registration of vehicles. Deputy Transport Commissioner S. Venkateswara Rao said the existing vehicle owners can also enter their Aadhaar number by logging on to ‘www.aptransport.org’.

“The department plans to give people the option of entering phone numbers also as part of its e-governance initiative. Vehicle owners will get messages automatically so that they get to know the status of each transaction,” he added.
