Training programme held for power engg. students

With the evident demand of skilled manpower in the field of power sector, the GMR Institute of Technology has taken an initiative in creating awareness over the B.Tech programme with Power Engineering. The Central Electricity Authority has extended its help for the six-week training programme which was concluded recently. According to the Head of the Department of Power Engineering, M. Venkateswara Rao, AICTE approved the course with an annual intake of 60 students.

The curriculum is well-balanced between the streams of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering enabling the students to take up a career in the power sector.

Graduates completing the course are licensed to operate power stations, including captive power plants. Students can opt this course as a career opportunity as the government is focusing on the power sector to help industries to get uninterrupted power supply, Mr. Rao said. “We hope more number of students would choose the course in the current academic year too,” he added.
