The railway connectivity between the Chennai and New Delhi Grand Trunk (GT) route was disrupted following the breakdown of high-tension wires providing power supply to the trains on the route in Ramagundam of Karimnagar district on Saturday.
Reports reaching here said that the authorities were constructing the railway over bridge at the Ramagundam railway station. When the workers were fixing the iron rods for the construction of pillars, the iron rods fell on the high-tension wire on the railway track causing breakdown of the lines and snapping the power supply.
Five workers sustained injuries in the mishap and they were shifted to Godavarikhani area hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, train services on the busy GT route from the south to north India were affected following the no power supply on the high-tension wires. Several trains such as AP Express, GT express and other trains were stopped at various railway stations causing serious inconvenience to the passengers on board.
