Ministers and MLAs were forced to take a detour to attend the Assembly following traffic restrictions imposed by the police on Tuesday.

Police did not allow Medical and Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas and others from taking the ‘karakatta’ ( river bund) route to reach the Assembly. Instead, they suggested the Ministers and MLAs to take the other route.

As the police did not relent, they were compelled to take the road via Penumaka.

Annoyed with the police behaviour, the Ministers and MLAs lodged a complaint with Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao. Subsequently, the Speaker summoned Guntur Rural SP Venkatappalanaidu to seek his explanation. He expressed displeasure over the obstruction of vehicles of elected representatives when the police officials tried to give him an explanation.

The Speaker cautioned him that stringent action would be taken if the police put elected representatives to inconvenience in future.

MRPS call

Police made elaborate arrangements in view of the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) call for ‘Chalo Assembly.’ Police sanitised all roads leading to the Assembly and the Secretariat. As part of their preparedness plans, police did not allow any traffic on the ‘karakatta’ which is relatively shorter route to the Assembly. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s residence is also located on the same road. It has become a practice to block the traffic on ‘karakatta’ and other roads well in advance when Mr. Naidu’s movements are scheduled. The police do not allow movement of any vehicles in view of Mr. Naidu’s security requirements. Some times, traffic comes to grinding halt for more than half an hour on roads that lead to the Secretariat.
