The workers and employees under the aegis of AP Tourism Contract, Manpower, Daily wage employees and workers Union have staged a protest in front of Berm Park here.
The protest reached fifth day on Friday. They have been demanding the State government to address their demands including regularisation of their services. Recalling that they withdrew strike following an assurance from Department of Tourism Principal Secretary Chandana Khan on October 2012, they said that the government went back on its promises and assurances given to them.
The workers were being paid meagre salary of Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 5,000 though the government was paying handsome amount. The remaining amount is pocketed by the agencies that hired the workers.
The government remained mute spectator though minimum wages were not being paid. Neither there was PF nor ESI. Across the state, there were 260 daily wage workers, 400 contract employees, and 1200 manpower employees who were receiving raw deal, they said.
Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Vijayawada (West) incharge Buddha Venkanna expressed their solidarity to the agitating workers.
Mr. Rao said that his party would launch agitation if the government did not heed to the genuine demands.
The TDP would organise a dharna on National Highway (NH) shortly, he added.
