‘Top sporting facilities planned at Amaravati’

Sports management outfit GoSports launched

Minister for Sports Kollu Ravindra on Thursday said that the State government has planned to shape capital Amaravati into a city capable of hosting international events in days to come and cited allocation of land to build a sports city.

Speaking at the inaugural function of GoSports, a sports event management outfit, he said the new sports policy was aimed at providing top class infrastructure and encouraging sporting talent to reach new heights.

“Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is working towards making Amaravati a sporting hub for bigger events.,” he said. He hailed the success of Venkata Ragala, a weightlifter from Guntur, at the ongoing Commonwealth Games and subsequent announcement of a cash award of ₹15 lakh by the CM.

‘Welcome sign’

BCCI Senior Selection Committee Chairman M.S.K. Prasad said the entry of GoSports was a welcome sign as it was aimed at promoting various games other than cricket.

Andhra Pradesh Table Tennis Association secretary S.M. Sultan shared the difficulties faced by sports associations other than cricket bodies.

Andhra Cricket Association general secretary Ch. Arun Kumar said outfits like GoSports would infuse professionalism into the sports segment.

As the inaugural tournament, GoSports is staging a corporate T-20 tournament from April 13 to 22 at Mulapadu playfields.
