Toddy claims two lives, six hospitalised

Two youth died after consuming spurious toddy in Rampa Yerrampalem village of Gokavaram mandal in East Godavari district on Saturday.

According to police, the youth consumed the toddy which was stocked in a hut, along with eight others in the village.

Bakarapu Sinu (31) and Nagula Durga Rao (30), who returned to their houses late on Friday night, started vomiting and slipped into coma in the wee hours of Saturday. They were shifted to a private hospital in Rajahmundry where they were declared brought dead.

The other eight persons are recovering. Assistant Excise Superintendent Subba Rao said that an enquiry had been ordered into the incident and toddy samples were sent to Kakinada lab for testing.
